The History Quill Virtual Writers’ Convention 2022
The History Quill will host a five day virtual convention for historical fiction writers on 2–6 February, 2022.
Christine will be part of a Panel Discussion and Q&A The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Is The Hand That Rules The World with fellow authors: Wendy Dunn, Glenice Whitting and Kate Murdoch.
History once paid little attention to the stories of women. For hundreds of years, these stories were deemed uninteresting and remained untold or left behind the enclosed doors of home and family. This was especially the case for ‘the mother’. For centuries, women approached childbirth knowing that the possibility of death also approached them. ‘The mother’ is a powerful and propelling force in many works of fiction. This panel explores the crafting of ‘the mother’ in works of historical fiction. It will discuss the common and the less common tropes, and how the concept of ‘the mother’ has evolved over time.
